Position Summary

As an integral member of the team, the Maintenance and Grounds Worker performs a wide variety of tasks to ensure that the property is well managed and well maintained. The Maintenance and Groundswoker is responsible for helping to ensure industry leading levels of customer service and facilities are provided to all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform exterior maintenance which may consist of maintaining and repairing fences and signs, spreading top soil, laying sod, grass, maintenance of shrubs and trees etc. to assist with the upkeep of landscaping and related structures. Keep grounds looking neat and tidy and maintain neatness of all large garbage bins located on site.

  • Completion of seasonal tasks.

    • Summer: garbage pick up, debris removal etc.

    • Winter: garbage pick up, clear snow from sidewalks and walkways on vacant units and administration buildings, apply ice melt as needed (may need to come in on weekend if big snowfall).

  • Work in conjunction with contractors to complete various tasks and issues. This may include moving appliances for flooring contractors, removing flooring products in preparation for new installations or accompanying contractors into units.

  • Keep a daily log of all ongoing jobs, work orders, mileage, etc.

  • Pick up parts or supplies that are ordered by the site.

  • Prepare suites to market ready condition (may include removal of furniture and debris left by past residents).

  • Work occasional month end or weekends to help with the turnover of units.

  • Prioritize and schedule all work to meet deadlines.

  • Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to resident after hours emergencies.

  • Execute all work in a safe, professional manner in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.

  • Ensure comprehension and compliance with all Westcorp Properties Inc. Playbook policies.

  • Other maintenance/grounds duties as required and assigned by the Property Manager.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Two years relevant experience

  • Basic plumbing, electrical, heating and carpentry knowledge an asset

  • Physically fit, ability to lift, carry or move heavy items

  • Safety conscience and safety oriented attitude

  • Must have own tools, own vehicle for hauling and valid driver’s license

  • Must have the ability to meet on call requirements

  • Must be flexible and willing to change roles or responsibilities as required

  • High degree of professionalism and accountability to all stakeholders

    Security clearance required upon offer of employment

    Possess sensational customer service philosophy
